Happy Birthday Baby!

Michael turned the "Terrific Two" on Sunday, May 3rd - but we celebrated his birthday on May 4th. I know nasty trick right? He didn't know the difference. We had our friends the Paulsens and Henstroms over for a BBQ and birthday cake.

Here's Michael with his favorite little friend, Matthew Paulsen. Michael calls him "Baby." They can really get each other laughing! It's so much fun to watch!

When we started signing "Happy Birthday" to Michael, I don't think he got we what we were doing. He almost looked mad that we were signing to him and he had a birthday cake with burning candles on it.

But when it came time to blow out the candles, he knew exactly what to do and he even clapped for himself after he blew out both candles!

Michael's way of eating ice cream: first pick up the ice cream with your hand and then put it on the spoon, and eat.

Or...forget the spoon all together and just eat it with your hands! Yummy ice cream!

Michael got a lot of great gifts, but his favorite was an "old school" cash register from Fisher Price. He played with it for a long time before we could get him in bed. You can't see it in the picture, but his chin and shirt were covered with drool! He drools when he is really concentrating and/or enjoying something that he's doing or playing with.

Shprekenshe Michael?

My sweet baby Michael is turning two tomorrow! He has been saying words for awhile but lately he's been adding the "sh" sound to a lot of words that he had said normally in the past. Here's some of his new "words":

shoo-shoo = Thomas the Tank Engine
shoushide = Outside
shu = juice
There's more words, but they are escaping me right now. I love baby talk! In fact I encourage it even when I know that you're not supposed to. One of my favorites is when Andy used to call Pirates "arrghers"! It took Nathan and I awhile before we realized what he was talking about. They were "arrghers" because they said "aargh" all the time. So I adopted that name for Pirates and when he grew out of it, he'd say, "Mommy, they're Pirates!" I was so sad! A few more of Michael's words:

go-go = Dora the Explorer, Go Diego, Go, and yogurt
Nay = Nate
Hay = Haley
Ay = Andy
ju = juice
chee = cheese
ba-ba = socks and bye-bye
doggie = every animal but a duck
qack-qack = duck
Memo = Nemo
hishy = fish (sometimes it's shishy)
youd = loud
doggie go? = first two word sentence

I love this age where they do some of the cutest things and the world is all new to them, so everything is exciting! Happy Birthday my Baby Boy!!
