A Different Colored Arm

This past Monday after my tennis match, we were all in The Neighborhood at the RAC.  Michael wasn't feeling well and Alina was tired so we decided it was time to go.  Nate and Haley were in this play structure there in The Neighborhood and Andy was going to tell them it was time to go.  On his way, he wasn't looking where he was stepping and tripped on this mound that is on a nearby miniature golf hole.  He went forward, landed on his wrist wrong and hit his mouth on the brick border.  His mouth was bleeding and so that was our immediate concern.  That night he kept complaining that his wrist hurt.  Nathan and I kept telling him that he probably just really hurt it and that it would feel better the next day.  The next day, his mouth was fine, but he kept complaining about his wrist hurting and would go crazy if anyone came near it or touched it.  But he was using his arm fine and he even went swimming in the neighbor's pool.  I didn't know what to think, so when Nathan came home he examined it and decided we should take him in the next day.  On Wednesday, he got it x-rayed and it was discovered that he had a buckle fracture in the radial bone in his right wrist.  A buckle fracture means that the bone was bent and then straightened causing a fracture (think bendy straw).  Andy got a cast put on yesterday.  He has to wear it for 3-4 weeks.  I felt so bad because I kept telling him that it would get better.

Andy says that the cast is really annoying!  He has a really hard time eating and writing.  Here he's trying to eat his milkshake from Flapdoodles after he got his cast on.  At least his wrist doesn't hurt any more!

The Father of All Days!

For Father's Day, I gave Nathan a "Root Beer Sampler".  I found the idea online and loved it!  Nathan loves root beer, so I thought that he would love it too!  I was able to find 10 different kinds of root beer in glass bottles (one was in a can).  I also found a bottle of Butterscotch Beer, so I included that as well, to remind us of our time in Harry Potter World.  Nathan did indeed enjoy his gift and is still enjoying it as he chooses a new "brew" every night.  For dinner we had meatball sandwiches and for dessert?  Root Beer Floats!  Most of the root beers I bought came in packs of 4 or more, so the rest of us got to sample root beers as well.

Michael had made Nathan a Father's Day card and gift before school was out.  It was a cute card with a Shrinky Dink keychain.  In his card, Michael wrote that he loves it when Nathan takes him to the park.
Andy made a cute card in Primary.  Well, Sister Frandsen, his teacher, folded a cute card and Andy wrote something cute and witty inside of it.

Haley gave Nathan the most thoughtful gift of all!  She gave him her Math Masters plaque that she received for winning the Math Masters team competition.  Nathan kept asking her if she was sure that she wanted to give it to him, and she kept saying yes, that he helped her a lot with her Math Masters homework and that he deserved it as much as she did.  It was a very loving gift!

There's a Party Goin' On

We finally found a weekend that worked for Nate's birthday party, so what if it was a month after his actual birthday!  He wanted to have a swimming party at the RAC (Rochester Athletic Club).  It was a lot of fun and I think that all of his friends enjoyed themselves as well.

We went outside to swim for a little bit.  I heard the water was a little cold, but you got used to it.  I chose to be the photographer and had Nathan get in the water with Alina and Michael.

Haley was sneaking up on Nathan to scare him when I took this picture.

We spent most of the swimming time inside where it was warmer.  The RAC has this big orange dog that they pull out only for birthday parties.  I thought the boys would think they were too old for something like that, but it was a huge hit!

Hot tubbin!  From L-R: Eli, Oriam, Haley, Nate (don't know why he's pulling that face), Michael, and Joel.  Front: Andy, Jacob, David, and Sam.
After swimming and changing, the boys went back to "The Neighborhood" and had cake with root beer and Sierra Mist.  They only allow store bought cakes in the RAC for birthday parties.  We love Sam's Club's frosting, so we always get our cakes there!

Alina patiently waiting to have cake.  She would not take her eyes off of it!
13 pink candles?  Nate chose the color pink.  I can't believe I have a 13 year old!
 "Caaaaaaaake!"

She is just so gosh darn cute!

Movin' On Up!

Haley "graduated" from 5th grade on June 4th.  Elton Hills has a 5th grade recognition program.  The first part of the program had the 5th graders sharing memories from their time at Elton Hills.  One boy and one girl are assigned a specific grade, Haley and Payton were assigned 2nd grade to share memories about.  The principal and teachers shared some thoughts, the 5th graders were presented one by one by name, then the 5th graders sang "We are the World."  They also had a video slide show of the 5th graders.  They had asked parents to send in a baby or toddler picture and during the slide show, they'd show the baby picture first and then the school picture of the student.

Alina, again functioning on no nap, would not sit with me during the program.  As soon as the 5th graders entered the room, she wanted to be with Haley.  Alina even got "recognized" along with the 5th graders.  Haley's teacher, Mrs. Sherman, and the principal, Mr. Ehling, both shook her hand.  It was cute and embarrassing at the same time.

This was the picture I sent in to include in the video slide show.  Isn't she adorable? Congrats Haley, for moving on up to middle school!  We know you will do great!
